Keeping venues alive in Vancouver is becoming harder and harder
As many of you know the city has been attacking DIY spaces, trying to shut them down, denying business licenses and generally making it very difficult to run creative spaces in Vancouver.
The collective at the Farm managed to keep the space alive through covid, paying out of pocket to cover rent, while many venues were closed down.
We recently had another blow as the business in the front had to give up after two years of attempting to go legitimate.
We have been dealing with the city to try to legitimize the space. Try to get the appropriate permits, so we can keep hosting bands, patrons and continue to be one of very few all ages venues in the city. However we have come up against a wall, we are trying to rent the space in the front out to a business to make things easier, but as of now we are paying for the entire main floor, permits, business licenses, engineers to certify the building. The few shows we have a month just arent enough.
We really NEED your help to keep our venue’s doors open and get back to work. We want to keep the flame of underground alive. We all know the importance of the existence of these kind of spaces in our community so please help us to keep ours.
If your band has played here, or you have attended a show or market. You know how special the venue is.
Any help to keep it around is very appreciated!
