Keep Teagan & Tate with Daddy

To anyone who knows me should know my relationships with my children are very close. There is a bunch of fathers who are not present in their children lives and I unfortunately lost mine when I was in high-school.

 

My two daughters have been in my life since birth and I’ve done the best that I can providing for them and being a huge impact in their life. They have lived with me up until 2020. There mom filed a motion to relocate my children to South Dakota. A place she hasn’t lived in for over 15 years but simply because she wanted to be back closer to family.

 

We were in a custody relocation trial for over a year. Ct Family services did a thorough investigation and ruled that they are in non support of her relocation as it would severely impact the girls visitation with myself. My daughter Teagan’s counselor also stated that she suffers from anxiety and adjustment disorder and the move would severely affect her. The courts granted her relocation against the best interest of my children! 

 

The girls were born and raised here, attends school has family and friends close by and are with myself 3 days a week and two weekends a month. Everything they’ve ever known is here in ct. they’ve visited extended family only a handful of times in South Dakota which is over 1000 miles away from Dad.

 

There is very little to no diversity at all there. My kids are of mixed race. They don’t know anyone there other than a few family members. Mom does not have a guaranteed employment opportunity there nor guaranteed housing for my children other then staying in an uncle’s basement until she gets on her feet.

 

My attorney and myself as well as Family Services and my daughters therapist proved that a move would substantially impact the nature of our relationship and the judge completely disregarded that. We even proposed an order that would allow the children to be with both Mom & Dad 50% of the time which was also disregarded. Children deserve both parents in their lives. There’s alot of men who could care less about stepping up. There’s a lot of men who wouldn’t waste a breath on fighting for their children’s right to be in their lives. There’s a lot of Black fathers who would walk away completely. And there’s ones that choose to do whatever it takes to maintain that relationship.

 

I’m not one to ask for help but I refuse to lose my children to a summer visit schedule and school breaks. All my kids mean the world to me and daughters today need their fathers more than anything. I refuse to sit back and let the courts tear my kids family apart. I’m not asking for me but I’m asking for help so my daughters don’t lose the right to have their father consistently in their lives. I’ve exhausted funds on the first lawyer and now have to pay another lawyer to defend my children’s right to a meaningful and consistent relationship with their father in appellate court.
