Ahoy!
Since 2017, solo sailor James Frederick has built a following and a community around documenting and sharing his trials and triumphs at sea (and in the boatyard) aboard his 1965 Alberg 30 sloop, SV Triteia. As many of those reading might already know, he's currently in Thailand - about midway through his solo circumnavigation.
Though many supporters have offered in the past, James never imagined accepting outside funds to sustain his circumnavigation. That said, the realities of putting 18,000 miles under the keel of a 61-year-old vessel have come into clearer focus after a planned haul out and (partial) refit was completed in December 2025. A full breakdown is provided below, but the bottom line is that James and Triteia are facing critical equipment failures that need to be addressed before continuing on to the Indian Ocean. Watch a conversation with James and Victoria here for full context:
The bottom line: He could stop, tuck Triteia in somewhere safe for a year, go home to make some money, then come back in 2027 and pick up where he left off. OR - at the urging of those close to him and his incredible crew of followers - he could allow those who have found some value in his work over the years the opportunity to come together and contribute towards the continued journey.
From the early days of refitting Triteia paycheck to paycheck, to casting off the lines in Los Angeles in 2021, to navigating picturesque atolls, or making field fixes in remote places, James has always readily shared his thinking, process, discoveries, challenges, and wins. He has released nearly 600 videos over the last 8+ years and has always made all of them available (for free) to the public.
All Funds raised go directly to James Frederick to fund the equipment listed below, and the related costs of install. Let's help James pay this round of “Adventure Tax” and keep him sailing safely around the world.

Fundraising Details:
With the confirmed total loss of the inboard engine, discovery that the rudder needs to be rebuilt, and need for a new rigid-bottom inflatable dinghy, the total costs to continue on this year are as follows:
Sponsored:
- Haul out in Krabi / late January 2026 ($1200 - sponsored by Port Takola Yacht Marina)
- Stainless steel + fabrication costs for new rudder parts ($2000 - sponsored by Rolly Tasker)
Still need to fund:
- Marine ply, fiberglass materials, gel coat, primer, and bottom paint for new rudder (approx. $1200 from East Marine - James will do the labor)
- Hypalon dinghy ($3000 - Highfield)
- Ultra long shaft 6hp outboard ($2000 - Tohatsu)
- New outboard motor mount for Triteia's transom ($300 - from East Marine)
Thank you sincerely for reading, for whatever contributions you're able to make, and to everyone who already supports by watching James' channel or being a Patreon. To learn more about James and SV Triteia, visit his website.
