Capital District Border Watch is raising urgently needed tuition funds to keep a local DACA student enrolled in college this fall. This young woman is a rising senior with a 3.98 GPA, and is on the Dean's List at an historically Black university. She's a biology major on a pre-med track, and is currently applying to medical schools with the intention of attending in the fall of 2021. But due to financial hardship and the university's policies, she will be unable to stay enrolled this semester unless she can pay $8,996 in outstanding tuition fees by August 7.
To protect this "dreamer" student's privacy and avoid online harassment, we're keeping her identity confidential; but she is well known to members of our community, and her circumstances have been vetted by our fundraising team. She is already receiving an academic scholarship from her university, and is in the process of seeking $5,700 in additional financial aid. In the meantime, every dollar we can raise brings her closer to staying in school, pursuing a career in medicine, and securing her documented status in this country.
All funds raised in excess of this young woman's tuition needs for the fall semester (if she receives additional aid from the school, for instance), will be applied to our emergency fund to cover requests for support from immigrant families in need in the Capital District. Please direct any questions to Capital District Border Watch via this GoFundMe page.
