My name is Sallie Tanner and I am hoping to raise money to help my son George and his dog Sonny. I will start at the beginning. Our family had a golden doodle named Weezy for almost 11 years. She was my son’s best friend and sibling since he is an only child. When we let her go, it broke my son in a way his father and I could never imagine! This shattered our hearts. After a couple of months of brainstorming and finagling he found a dog and a way to adopt him. George used his savings and sold his mountain bike to bring this beautiful boy home. His name is Sonny. He is the sweetest, smartest dog I have had and I’ve had a few dogs. We brought him home on a Saturday and we were at the vet with him first thing Monday morning. He was so sick. So many tests without answers, ultrasounds and continued trial and error all without a reason. We did know that he had severe hookworms, and his red blood cell was very low. For weeks he suffered with lose stools that were mainly blood (sorry TMI.) There were countless vet visits and emergency vets on the weekends. He wasn’t eating and needed fluids constantly. We nearly lost him more than once. After 2 hospitalizations and a few rounds of antibiotics, he finally showed signs of improvement. While he finally turned the corner all thanks to our wonderful vet and the vet techs at Tritt Animal Hospital, he still has a long road ahead of him. We still have not eliminated the hookworms, and he continues to be our “special” dog in more ways than one. He is even a case study for a parasitilogist with UGA. With the help of family, we have gotten him to this day, by the grace of God! We have depleted much of our savings and asked so much of our very generous family and now we turn to you. Those who love our son George or have met this sweet baby Sonny, we need your help with ongoing veterinary expenses. Our goal is to keep him here with us and not have to let him go to a rescue agency that has more options financially than we do. If you feel moved to help George and his sweet boy Sonny, you would warm the hearts of our family so much. No gift is too small as it all adds up quicker than we could imagine. I know this seems trivial in the grand scheme of things, but our son’s heart is all in and of course all we want as parents is to help him and Sonny.
