My name is Tamia Romo, and I am raising money to pay for legal fees on behalf of my father, Ruben, who is facing a removal order in 30 or so days.

My father came to the U.S. as an unaccompanied 13 year old in the 80’s. Since then, he has raised 3 daughters and recently welcomed a son in 2025. My dad has spent nearly all his life working himself to the bone to provide for his family here, and bring his loved ones over from Jalisco. The U.S. is where his friends and nearly all his relatives now reside. A return to Mexico would be catastrophic for him, and also for my 3 youngest siblings, who are all minors and depend on him for financial security.

Earlier this week, his green card application was denied due to an inability to locate the plane ticket that brought him here nearly 40 years ago. His attorney presented him with two options: appeal the decision, or restart your application. Both of which he simply cannot afford to do after pouring $23,000 into this process on a butcher’s salary. Additionally, he was told that the notice of his denial will automatically trigger a removal order in 30 days.

With your help, I am hoping to cover the costs of a motion to reconsider and restart the green card application process with a different lawyer. As you can imagine, the road ahead is not easy and far from certain. But my dad always taught me to fight and I refuse to let him go down without swinging.
