Help My Dad Fight Cancer and Keep Painting

Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and compassionate supporters,

My family is facing one of the toughest challenges imaginable—my dad, Robert Davidson, has been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a battle we never saw coming. Multiple myeloma is a form of blood cancer, it is treatable, however, treatment must be as soon as possible. Today, I’m reaching out for help to ensure he gets the urgent care and support he needs during this difficult time - which will save his life.

What’s Happening
While traveling in Fiji, my dad fell ill with an infection in his leg, later diagnosed as septic arthritis. Seeking further treatment, he traveled to Shenzhen, China, where doctors performed surgery to drain the infection and ran tests due to dangerously low blood counts. It was during these tests that he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. During his stay in hospital in China (2.5 months) he developed infected pressure sores that need urgent treatment as well. The infection has spread throughout his body.

On May 22nd, 2025, he arrived in Canada to live with me, his daughter Eileen Davidson, while receiving treatment at Burnaby General Hospital’s oncology unit. He needs fast and effective medical care—but due to his permanent resident status, we must pay for treatment upfront. That’s why we need our community’s help.

Why We Have to Pay First
Originally a UK citizen, my dad has spent several years traveling in retirement. He first moved to Canada in 1962 at age 13, attended high school here, and worked for over 40 years in British Columbia’s film industry - which he paid taxes into for health care. He won a Leo award, Gemini award for his work in film and contributed to the arts and culture of Canada as an incredible surrealist artist. He raised two children, Eileen and Kyle Davidson, and made Canada his home.

Unfortunately, during his years abroad—including time affected by the pandemic—his Permanent Residency was deactivated due to time out of the country. Now, he’s back in Canada where I can care for him and be with family, but we must renew his PR status before he can receive medical coverage. The wait period for this to kick in is too long. He needs care now.

I have done everything I can to contact every MP and MLA in a 30km radius, The Ministry of Health and Immigration. While I am hopeful we can receive help from them, I can't rely on them due to bureaucratic policies that may cost my dad his life.

Why We Need Your Help
I am committed to doing everything I can to support my dad’s recovery, but the financial strain is overwhelming. Between medical bills, treatments, mobility supplies, health expenses, hours trying to get paperwork done, and travel costs, the road ahead is long and extremely costly. This is especially challenging as I live with rheumatoid arthritis, making caregiving even more complex—but I will not let that stop me from doing everything I can to save my dad's life.

Your Generous Donations Will Help Cover:
  • Immigration lawyer fees
  • Private healthcare until he qualifies for Canada’s medical services plan (estimated 3–6 months)

With gratitude, Eileen Davidson
