Help Robert Stay in His Home

Robert is a Vietnam veteran who has called his studio apartment on Montana Ave in Santa Monica home for nearly 15 years. He is more than just a neighbor—he is a pillar of our community, a selfless soul who has given so much to those around him.

Unfortunately, Robert has fallen behind on his rent and now faces the risk of losing his home. His billionaire landlord has agreed to let him stay if he can clear a negotiated debt of $14,000. Robert has a plan to move forward and cover his rent in the future, but he needs help overcoming this immediate financial hurdle.

Why Robert Deserves Our Support

Robert isn’t just another tenant—he is the heart of our neighborhood. A disabled veteran, he served in the 25th Infantry Division from 1966 to 1970 as an infantryman in Vietnam, where he was exposed to Agent Orange—a toxic chemical that has led to lifelong health complications. Despite this, he carries himself with unwavering kindness and resilience.

I have known Robert since the day he moved into the apartment next to mine, and I have seen firsthand the kindness he spreads daily. Armed with nothing but a broom and a generous spirit, Robert is known for sweeping the alleyways and streets, keeping our neighborhood clean out of sheer goodwill. He would give you the shirt off his back—literally—and does so for anyone in need. His kindness is unwavering, and while it has made him an irreplaceable part of our community, it has also contributed to the financial hardship he now faces.

Robert often says, “Never leave a compliment or a good deed behind. There’s a shortage and it’s free.” He lives by these words, always seeking to make the world around him a little better, whether through a kind word, a selfless act, or simply sharing his wisdom.

Let’s Show Robert the Same Kindness He Shows Us

If you know Robert, or if he has ever touched your life as he has touched mine, please consider donating. Even a small contribution will bring him closer to keeping his home. If you aren’t able to donate, sharing a message or a story about how Robert has impacted your life would mean the world.

Robert often jokes, “Actuarially, I should have been dead a long time ago,” but he is still here—still giving, still fighting, still believing in the goodness of people. Let’s show him that his faith in humanity is well-placed.

Leave people nicer than you found them.” That’s Robert’s motto. Today, let’s return the favor.

Thank you for your generosity and support. Let’s keep Robert in his home!
