We are FYJFY foundation, a DIY punk collective in San Francisco with a goal to ensure that the raw and creative energy in this city can continue to thrive . San Francisco has a rich history of arts, music and counterculture, and we want to do all we can to keep it that way.
FYJFY foundation is run by I (Pretty Sims) and my partner Cody Azumi. With my band False Flag and Cody's band Surprise Privilege, we've been hosting and playing shows since 2021, some that have gained notoriety over the years such as our show on the blue line BART train, on the streets of San Francisco, Chinese restaurants as well as historical venues such as Mabuhay Gardens which recently has been in the process of reopening with the goal of returning to its roots of being a punk venue.
Cody and I decided to start an independent record label called FYJFY in 2023 with the goal of documenting the explosion of young people starting bands and playing music in the San Francisco punk scene after the covid lockdown was lifted. Shortly after starting our label, Cody and I decided it was important to establish a community space and a home base for our record label. For years we frequented Thrillhouse Records in the Mission (Love you guys!) meeting so many friends, playing music and just having a place to express ourselves freely. Being in spaces with genuine human interaction after the covid lockdown led us to the realization that now more than ever we need spaces where people are encouraged to socialize and express their creativity in person. In June of 2025 we opened I Hate Records in the Lower Haight, a volunteer run record store and community space.
I was born and raised here in the city, the burden that comes with extremely high rent and high cost of living is intimidating, many people who want to continue living here have to make a lot of sacrifices. Right now San Francisco is experiencing an influx of AI companies moving in and it almost feels like a takeover, rent is climbing, and many of us are in fear of being displaced. There are so many young artists and musicians here that we would love to support, so many ideas we have for workshops, more shows, resources for the community as well as funding permits to have shows without getting fined, but the cost of our rent + basic expenses leaves us with limited options.
Any contribution you make toward FYJFY is a great way to support our future projects, events, our independent label and our record store in the Lower Haight. Help punk stay in San Francisco, you won't be disappointed!
