Dear Our Periscope Coffee Community,
After temporarily shutting down operations on March 17th for COVID-19 safety concerns, Periscope Coffee thought we were prepared to weather the storm. We’ve overcome many obstacles and hardships in our past. We believed our low overhead and deferment of bill payments would keep us afloat until reopening. But as the “New York State On PAUSE” executive order continues through April, our situation has become desperate.
While most bills can be extended or paid back over time, car insurance is not one of them. While a vehicle is considered a luxury for most New Yorkers, it is an essential and expensive cost of running our business. Not only is our tow vehicle required by law to have commercial car insurance, but $1 million single limit liability coverage as well. This results in a significant policy premium expense every month.
If Periscope Coffee can not make our past due premium payment of $1,070.00 by April 25th, we risk having our policy cancelled. This would immediately void our operating permits and make it illegal for us to drive our tow vehicle necessary to reopen.
We are aware of the economic relief programs becoming available and are doing everything in our power to get our operations back up and running. Even if by some miracle we qualify and get approval, the funds may be weeks away. This means we must reach out and ask our community for help. Our wonderful regulars who have supported us through thick and thin over the past 5 years. As many of you know, we were just starting to get back on track after going through some serious growing pains.
It's was our job to keep you going, now we need your help to keep us going. If anyone working from home can donate to our cause, it would ensure your enjoyment of our coffee when this is all over. Any and every little bit helps, even just spreading and sharing this campaign with your friends.
Any additional funds raised would go towards operational bills that continue to pile up. This includes back payroll, coffee supplier payments, car payments, payroll taxes, sales tax repayments, commissary rent, debt repayments, and operation location lease payments.
We are still in this fight and look forward to the happy days of our past. Being the best part of your day was the best part of our day. Your loyalty and devotion gave us purpose and meaning to keep doing what we do. We hope to see everyone’s smile soon and to continue making New York City a better place for everyone.
