Peel Street Cinema is a student-run film initiative that has focused on fostering and uplifting a film-loving community within Montreal over the past years. Peel Street, conceived as The Film Society in the 1930s, is one of the longest-running clubs at McGill.
Historically, our programming of free weekly screenings has offered a much-needed space for McGill students to experience the world of cinema with like-minded peers. Showcasing a diverse selection of movies that span genre, language, and era, we believe acting as a resource for the young generation to discover and engage in the arts is as important as ever. Our events have become a place for film lovers to connect, discuss, and celebrate their shared passion for the screen.
Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding from McGill, it has become increasingly difficult to sustain our programming. Where we once had the resources to hold two weekly screenings, popcorn included, we now struggle to even secure a space at all.
This GoFundMe is dedicated to raising the funds needed to ensure the continuity of Peel Street Cinema. A donation would directly support venue bookings, allowing us to preserve this long-lasting tradition of cinema in Montreal.
