Keep Peach Playing: Peach's Hemilaminectomy
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,
I am reaching out for financial support for my cutiest dogter (daughter but she's a dog), Peach! I cannot express how grateful I am for the love, empathy, compassion, and support each one of you has given to our lives and I am so thankful to have people I can call upon right now.
(Please scroll to the bottom for medical and financial updates.)
Medical Story- Peach's Emergency Hemilaminectomy Spinal Surgery:
On 10/26/23, Peach was taken into emergency surgery to correct two herniated discs in her back. Without surgery, she had a 5-10% chance of ever walking again and a 90% chance of complete paralysis and loss of function of her whole lower half.
Thankfully, her case was an ideal candidate for surgery with a 85% success rate of returning to a normal life. She is out of surgery and recovering and they are very optimistic about her recovery. She will be recovering for 12-16 weeks, with follow up imaging and benefit from physical therapy.
The decision to do surgery wasn’t taken lightly. This is a massive undertaking financially and practically, but it is comforting that it gives her the best chance at a good, long life. We're looking forward to 10+ more years on this earth spent playing with her true loves, Pink Ball and me!
Our Story- Peachy is my person:
Peach has been my daily companion for the last 4 years. She has seen me through many moments that few humans could. She has let me rely on her for love. She has offered me and everyone that loves me, kisses, sweetness, laughter, cuteness, snuggles, endless rounds of fetch, little adventures, sharing her couch, bugs that she kills and delivers, lessons in sunbathing, and all done with the perfect amount of attitude. Peach has many roles; she is proud to be the welcoming committee at the Center for Photographic Art, she is an active volunteer security system for the neighborhood, and she is president of the Fetch Appreciation Society. Everywhere she goes all 2 legged strangers are long lost friends. Peach teaches me and all she meets how to love and live life to the fullest.
Our Finances:
I would do anything for her, but I know I can’t do it alone. I am humbled by the compassion and care from so many people who love me and Peach, because I need help. Below is a breakdown of the costs we’ve either already covered or will cover. 100% of the funds will be used to cover these costs. If there’s any money left over, the amount will be shared transparently on this page and donated completely to Dog Gone Seattle (which is where Peach was adopted from) and the Monterey SPCA in honor of Elneda Connors (who is one of Peach's dear friends, a retired veterinarian who has walked us by the paw through the whole process).
Financial Update 10/28/23: At pick up the hospital returned $800 Peach was a perfect patient and did not require extra interventions. Our new goal is $17,758.
Financial Update 10/29/23: The hospital feels that Peach is out of the woods for critical Post-Surgery Care (what a relief!) our Post-Surgery budget has been updated accordingly and our new goal is $11,858.
Surgery: $11,758.00 (Billed) -$800 (Refunded on 10/28/23)
Post-Surgery Care and Imaging: Was estimated at $3,000 however Peach experienced no complications and as of 1/19 we are told we do not need to expect these charges to be necessary! Wohooo!
Physical Therapy: $900 (Estimated by Provider) $650 (Billed so far as of 2/2)
Total: $11,858.00
In the future- As all surgeries require she will need a “long leash” to walk the path to recovery. We are all channeling Peach’s incurable optimism!
With deepest gratitude and warmest regards,
Peach’s Mom (Lauren Brown)
