My name is Jack Kerr. I’m an Armed Forces veteran, an outdoor mountain leader, and the founder of GI Guides.

Like many veterans, I’ve experienced both the highs and the lows that can come after military service. I know firsthand how important purpose, challenge, teamwork and the outdoors can be when life becomes difficult. That’s why I created this project.

Our mission is simple: to take veterans who are struggling back into the outdoors through professionally led mountain expeditions.

Based in Fort William, we’ll be running guided day hikes and multi-day expeditions throughout the Scottish Highlands. Every expedition will be carefully planned, professionally led, and graded by difficulty so that veterans can begin with easier routes before progressing to more demanding challenges as their confidence and fitness grow.

This isn’t about setting speed records or climbing the biggest mountains. It’s about rebuilding confidence, creating friendships, improving physical and mental wellbeing, and reminding people they are capable of far more than they often believe.

The money raised will help provide:

* Essential expedition equipment.

* Group safety equipment.

* Camping and mountain equipment.

* Navigation and emergency equipment.

* Transport and logistical support where required.

* Subsidised or fully funded places for veterans who otherwise couldn’t afford to attend.

My long-term goal is to make these expeditions available throughout the year and to grow the project by working alongside charities, other qualified guides and local organisations. As support grows, so will the opportunities available to veterans.

GI Guides has never been about making money. It was built to help people discover the outdoors, challenge themselves, and find a healthier way of moving forward.

Every donation, no matter the size, helps us get another veteran into the hills, around a campfire, or standing on a summit they never thought they’d reach.

Sometimes the hardest journey is simply taking the first step.
