Sacramento State Rowing team "Alumni Oars". These are wooden blanks painted in our team colors, in the shape of oar blades. These blades hang in the rafters of the boathouse and document the final crews of each season (men and women). The blades start with our first year in 1983 and then we had to stop at 2010. Whether it was lack of money, supplies, or desire, we just had a long dry spell with no updates. I compile the lists and when the blades are printed at the end of the season every year, the $40 charge (x2) is very manageable. However, when I had to take 14 years (x2) to the sign shop at one time, it really added up.
I didn't want to burden the team with this expense, so I handled the entire project on my own. One photo shows the stack of completed blades ready to hang in the boathouse. I'm so glad we are "caught up" and just hope to get a bit back of the expense. I always hope that seeing the history of the team inspires the current rowers to go the distance.
