Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Kind Supporters,

We’re reaching out on behalf of our dear neighbors and friends, Juergen and Margarita Steinhorst, a loving couple, aged 90 and 80, who are in immediate danger of losing their home after more than 30 years as model tenants in Tiburon, California.

They have lived quietly and humbly in Tiburon, California, but are now being forced to leave their home with nowhere else to go.

Their Story

Juergen and Margarita lost their only son to cancer. They spent their life savings on his treatment, never hesitating for a moment. Sadly, he passed away, leaving them not only heartbroken, but with nothing left financially.

Today, their only income is Social Security, which is not enough to afford rent anywhere near their hospitals and doctors they depend on. They have no family left to support them.

Now Juergen, 90, is battling advanced lung cancer, leukemia, and heart failure, requiring ongoing treatment and constant medical care. His 80-year-old wife, Margarita, is his sole caregiver and cannot work due to his needs.

Despite their tireless efforts — applying for Section 8 and numerous affordable senior housing programs, reaching out to local services, charities, churches, and government agencies, and beginning preparations to move over six months ago — Juergen and Margarita are still on waiting lists with no permanent housing secured or move-in date in sight. We were able to raise a bit of money for them over the holidays, but they still need more if possible.

Juergen and Margarita are required by legal agreement to move out of their home by May 31, 2025. They have formally applied to the court for a 45-day extension, and a decision on their request is expected soon. Without this extension, they face immediate homelessness and loss of access to essential medical care.

We are seeking to raise $6,000 to help Juergen and Margarita:

• Pay for temporary housing while moving to an affordable placement

• Cover moving costs and other relocation needs

• Afford basic living expenses during this crisis

They are not asking for ongoing support — just a chance to land on their feet after a lifetime of caring for others, and enduring unimaginable loss.
