On November 4, 2025, my brother-in-law went to the immigration offices in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for his what was to be his last interview before getting citizenship! He has had several of these appointments since moving to the United States from Canada in 2022 with my sister, his wife of 20 years. At this routine appointment, he was taken into a room where 5 ICE agents waited for him. They took him into custody stating he was being arrested for overstaying, leaving my sister alone in the waiting room. She called me moments later, crying and trying to figure out what just happened, why it happened, and what she can do next.
He is currently detained in an ICE detention center waiting for his hearing to determine his eligibility to stay or if he has to leave.
So far, they have spent over $15,000 on legal fees trying to get him back to his home here in Wisconsin with his family. We are now into January, and he has missed Thanksgiving, his 51st birthday, Christmas, New Year's—all these days that are meant to be spent with family and friends, a time of happiness, have been nothing but heartbreaking for my sister, my brother-in-law, and their 5 kids.
Even after all of this, he wants to fight and stay in Wisconsin, but they don't know how they can pay any more legal fees. We are hoping he will at least be allowed to go home to his wife and complete his immigration process from there. I am trying everything I can to help them get the money they need to keep the legal process going and get him home. If this fails, he will go back to Canada, and my sister will be going too. No one wants this to happen; they have built a life here the past 3 years.
Please help me keep my family here in the United States!!
