Keep Our Eyes Above the Waves
Hi, we are Kat and Ed, and we are fundraising to help rebuild the damages caused by Hurricane Ida and find our new home. Around this time last year, we saved enough money to start renovating our first apartment. It wasn't much, but with every project it felt more and more like home. We were proud of our accomplishments and we enjoyed showing our progress to friends and family.
On Wednesday night Hurricane Ida brought devastating winds and powerful flooding to our town of South Hackensack. Unfortunately, we were not prepared for what was to come. Within 20 mins, light flooding turned into 40 inches of water. We rushed to evacuate our pets and some valuables. We frantically tried to save as much as we could, feeling emotional and mental blows as we watched our home wash away and fall below rising waters. We were able to get to higher ground, thankful to have gotten out with just a few scratches and bruises.
The next afternoon, Kat and I were able to go back down to see what the storm had left behind. Walking through the debris it became impossible to not replay the events of the night before. The waters destroyed all of our furniture, appliances, and many personal items. Over a year of memories in our little nest and it was all washed away in minutes; our home was no more.
It saddens us to say that the water damages were too significant, and we are unable to continue living here. We must replace what we can and find a new home. We ask for your support and to help share our story. We appreciate anything you can give, and if you would like to help us in other ways please feel free reach out to us on our social medias.
