Initiated as a club in 1921 by local soldiers, the GESM club prides itself in having been a hub within the community for over 100 years. Although it continues to be recognised by its original name and basis of supporting servicemen and women, the club has developed to be a focal point of the Grappenhall Community providing social and sporting facilities to its members and guests and employment in the local area.
With a membership of 1000+ individuals and families, it provides facilities for all generations to enjoy.
The club welcomes members from near and far, irrespective of having served in the military and part of our strategy moving forwards is to build further upon our membership within the local community and throughout the UK.
During the recent pandemic, the club suffered financial challenges like all other establishments in the hospitality arena. Following a request to our membership, we were supported by all in generating funds from our members, to support the longevity of the club for now and the future.
Whilst the support of our wonderful members enabled the club to continue to operate and re-open post-covid, the financial impact to the clubs’ reserves has significantly reduced our ability to maintain and invest in the club facilities.
The club is run by an elected Committee of volunteers, made up of members from across all generations with varying professions, helping wherever possible to support and maintain the community facilities.
Addressing the financial stability of the club is our key priority and ensuring that we can continue to provide our services to the community, whilst maintaining the clubs’ facilities is essential.
For this, we need your help to enable us to raise some much-needed funds to get us underway on a number of key projects that will support all those that utilise the club and help ensure it stays fit for purpose for current & future generations.
These key projects include;
• Roofing repairs to reduce the long-term impact of water ingress.
• Build a Disabled Toilet in the members club, removing the need to utilise the existing facilities in the function room.
• Build an access ramp to the rear entrance of the members club.
• Electrical consumer unit replacement to enable us to expand our supply.
• Replacement of the Gents Toilet in the main club, to enable the Disabled Toilet to be built.
• Furniture repairs and decoration.
The committee are exploring multiple ways of raising funds and would welcome any support you can provide to help us on our way.
We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of our members and the wider community. By working together, we can help ensure that Grappenhall Ex-Servicemen’s Club remains a thriving, affordable and welcoming place for years to come.
Thank you.
