Hi, my name is Jonene. I’m 50 years old, and I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time.
In the coming months, I’ll be undergoing a double mastectomy and will need time to recover and heal. While my focus right now is on my health, I also carry the responsibility of a small business that means a lot to me — and to my community.
I’m the owner of NoName Gallery, an independent art gallery in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia. The gallery supports working artists, hosts community events, and has become a welcoming space for neighbors, families, and first-time art collectors. It’s not just my livelihood — it’s something I’ve built with care and intention over many years.
During my recovery, I’ll be out of commission for approximately 10 weeks. To keep the gallery open and running smoothly during that time, I need to bring on temporary support.
Funds raised will help cover:
A full-time gallery assistant (approx. 35 hours/week)
Someone to greet visitors, care for the space, assist customers, and keep the warm, welcoming energy people expect when they walk in.
A PR / Social Media & Communications assistant
To manage social media posts, newsletters, and outreach so the gallery — and the artists it represents — continue to be seen and supported.
Basic operating continuity
Ensuring exhibitions, sales, and community programming don’t come to a halt while I focus on recovery.
As a small business owner, taking time off isn’t simple — but my health has to come first. This fundraiser allows me to step away long enough to heal without closing the doors or losing momentum for the artists and community who rely on this space.
If you’ve ever visited the gallery, attended an event, supported an artist, or simply believe in independent, community-driven businesses — your support truly means more than I can express.
Thank you for helping me take care of my health while ensuring this space continues to thrive.
With gratitude,
Jonene
