Hi. My name is Susan Kirschbaum. I'm an artist and writer in NYC. I also serve as the primary caregiver and legal guardian for my mother Nella -- a beautiful soul who LOVES to dance -- but fights daily with a loss of short-term memory.
I hate to label it Alzheimer's, because despite forgetting names and days, my mother lights up every room she enters. She loves people and adds sunshine to their lives.
Nella -- because of her condition -- needs to reside in a senior home. I luckily found a wonderful place here in the city where she participates in many activities, including the Alvin Ailey senior dance extension series.
But the past year for us has been difficult. I underwent some procedures last year to remove abnormal cells in my ovaries. Then when I finally felt healthy enough to work AND was negotiating through the Writers' Guild of America, to contract for a scripted series, the WGA went on strike (rightfully so!) But this put me out of work (scheduled income.)
Now, we're close to five months in and the bills have piled up. Notably, my mother's monthly rent.
If you can donate -- even your lunch money-- to help our back rent fund, I'm hoping to keep my mother safely in her home.
It's difficult for me to post this. I do so, humbly. In exchange for any donations, I'm happy to post and share videos of Nella dancing! It's an energy exchange of the BEST KIND!
THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS!!
