Keep Ms. Stone Teaching Art
Donation protected
To the hundreds of children that she has touched through art, she is known as Ms. Stone! She is the Art teacher at an elementary school in Richmond, Virginia.
She needs help to finish the process of obtaining her certification by June of this year in order to keep her position as an art teacher.
Coming to work everyday isn't an easy task for Ms. Stone. She suffers from Fibromyalgia. She is in chronic pain most of the time.
The children wouldn't know she is going through this because she presents herself everyday to them with a positive and calm demeanor. She gives them the tools they need for specific art projects and then gives them the creative freedom to do it their way.
Ms. Stone was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The procedures dealing with this have increased her pain as well as her everyday mobility. She is in her classroom ready for the kids everyday that she can be, but there are days that this has not been an option. She has already used up all of her alloted sick leave. Many of her co-workers have donated time to her, but it will eventually not be enough coverage for her time needed and her paychecks will eventually reflect this.
She has been working towards her teaching certification as she currently teaches. She has completed all the necessary courses to obtain the certificate, but still needs to pay for them and take one more test. As she runs out of sick leave, there is a chance she will lose out on pay. Finances will begin to be tight as her paychecks may eventually relect her time taken off as well as all of her medical bills.
The balance that she owes on her classes and final test is $2, 650. The total for the prediction of future pay that will be lost is $2,700. In total we are trying to get $5,350 donated to Ms. Stone by June of 2017. This doesn't even include funding future absences, future procedures and future surgery. We are hoping this will be a good starting point.
These circumstances are beyond her control, and she deserves to have the job that she is so good at available to her as she weathers this storm.
The students at her school deserve to keep their art teacher who they love so much and learn so much from.
The entire staff as well as all the students at the school would not only benefit from your help but appreciate the opportunity to learn through art from Ms. Stone again next year.
Some of you that are familiar with Ms. Stone, may be learning about her conditions for the first time, please respect her privacy. It takes a lot of courage to share this personal information as well as ask for help. Addtional contacts and questions could easily be overwhelming .
I am writing this request on behalf of a friend, a colleage, a teacher to our students and a teacher to my own babies. Please donate to her cause. She is more than deserving to receive our help.
