Keep Moving! (Handicap Accesible Van)
Donation protected
Hello friends & family,
It’s been 1 year since my mom, Sheree, was diagnosed with ALS, and a lot had changed. For those who may not see my mom, or know about the state of her condition, her ALS has progressed quite a bit in the last year. Her ability to walk & talk has been almost completely compromised. Danny is my moms full time caregiver, and we are so grateful for him.
She is now completely wheelchair bound, and living in the rural area they do, that makes leaving the house very difficult. The transfers from wheelchair to vehicle have become almost impossible, and more unsafe, with her inability to move or control her body. She rarely leaves the house now, and it has become a concern regarding how we will safely transport her to and from doctors appointments and upcoming surgeries.
With that being said, a handicap accessible van is the next step and only option to continue moving forward and allowing her a sense of freedom, autonomy, and most importantly safe travel. A handicap accesible van provides a ramp that she can safely use to enter the vehicle while still in her wheelchair. This is now essential at this point in our journey. And while a lot of my moms essential medical equipment has been covered by insurance, or by ALS organizations, these handicap accessible vans are unfortunately not.
We are always so grateful for everyone’s continued love and support, and cherish these moments we have together. The next step in our journey is making sure that my mom is as comfortable as possible, and that she can still access the joys of traveling and leaving the house. Thank you all so much.
With love
