Milka is 10 years and 4 months old, and we’re doing everything possible to keep that count going.

Hi! I’m Mariia. I’m texting this message from my mom’s phone, right here in the vet emergency.

Milka was a birthday surprise to me when I was 6, and ever since then she’s been the closest of my friends. I’m 15 now, and just got pulled out of school with a call saying I might have to say goodbye to my cat. Sorry, I’m in a bit of a shock, I don’t know what to say.

She traveled with us from Ukraine when the war picked up, we could’ve never left her. Milka is such a huge member of our family.

Unfortunately, her insurance only covers accidents, and not illnesses, which this situation counts as. I’m not too sure what’s going on, I just got here. But she has a heart disease and asthma, that caused fluids in her lungs. And she’s breathing very heavy. I think that’s its like… Pretend you’re having a panic attack, but it won’t stop and it hasn’t for hours, so you’re locked up in a glass box with a plastic thing around your neck, with some people coming in once in a while to poke you with needles. I really, really want this to be over and for her to come back home. But we’ve just spent $5,000 in the emergency care, and need to do a lot of cardiology things.

Milka is a true sweetheart, and is very very scared right now, but we hope together we can help her survive this horrible (mon)day.
