Keep Michael Hughes's Advocacy Rolling, mobility scooter!

My wife Gale Julius and I are honored that Michael and Shay are allowing us to raise awareness of what they are facing as a family. Michael's choice to stick his neck out for the LGBTQIA community time and again is admirable. Many of us know of his tireless advocacy for the transgender community. His advocacy has taken him all over the country for conventions and educational speaking engagements, too many times with only travel expenses being covered.

What many do not know is how much goes into taking these trips. Michael has advanced Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. This syndrome significantly limits mobility and has progressed to a point where Michael requires the use of a motorized scooter. Also, due to this illness, Michael requires a special type of scooter to assist him. It must be very durable, lightweight, have simple hand controls, and fit on the plane with him while traveling to his advocacy engagements across the country. Unfortunately, one of his wheelchairs was a casualty of the airline when put under the plane. The scooter he is hoping to purchase is over $6000. Our hope is that we, the community, can help Michael to keep doing the invaluable advocacy he has done for us while having the supportive medical scooter that will keep him going.

An even bigger hope is to help Michael and Shay get out from under the over $60,000 debt his disability has cost them this far.

The community came to our aid when Gale was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago. You all saved us in so many ways, not just financially. It is our honor to be given this opportunity to support Michael in the same way the community supported us.
