Meagan McLaughlin is a young working mother who, like so many women before her, made the difficult decision to leave a dangerous marriage in order to protect herself and her son, Asher. She now faces insurmountable legal fees as she fights for Asher’s safety, stability, and future. Every dollar raised will go directly toward her mounting attorney costs—without support, she risks losing her ability to defend her son in court.

Asher has deep roots in Topanga. His school, friendships, and therapies are all here. This is the home he knows and where he is thriving. His father, however, chose to leave Topanga to live with his affluent parents in Arizona. Now they are attempting to remove Asher from his mother and his community, separating him from the life and stability he has always known.

Rather than support Asher’s educational and emotional needs, his father and grandparents push for corporal punishment and seek to strip him of his mother’s care—the care she has provided since his birth. Like many women and children, Meagan and Asher are caught in a family court system that has failed to prioritize safety, responsibility, and consistency.

Meagan is determined to fight for Asher’s right to remain in his home, school, and community, while still having a relationship with his father here in Topanga. But the financial burden is crushing and time is critical.
