I’m Matías, a photographer, artist and community organizer. I need to renew my visa, and this time around I’m ready to take the leap of faith and work as a full-time artist, for which I need to get an O-1B 'artist visa'. Being an artist is famously a financial nightmare, but I've been lucky enough to carve out a space for myself and my chosen family in NYC, so I'm hoping you can help me continue living and making work in this silly goofy town. I think most of us know visa processes are demeaning, difficult and, more often than not, designed for those with money. The O-1B is not an exception. Lawyers are a must (and expensive). The funds raised will go towards covering the cost of my immigration lawyer to assist with the complex O-1B visa process, as well as the government fees associated with the application. I require funding for the following expenses:

Legal fee – $6,000.00

USCIS filing fees – $460.00

Mailing and distribution fee – $250.00

GoFundMe fees (3% of total goal) – $200.00

Total – $6,910.00

Asking for help is not something that comes easy. I usually refuse it. But I don’t have an option. New York has become home. I'd appreciate it if you'd consider helping me out.
