Marcus is one of my very best friends and I care about him deeply. In 2024 he was laid off from his job as an environmental scientist. Anyone who has looked for work in the past couple years knows how rough the job market is, and that’s before you add in his field suddenly being flooded with applicants due to the federal layoffs. He’s doing everything he can to find work and has even branched out from his field.

He also has three amazing kids that he shares custody of. His savings is used up and keeping his household afloat and managing his kids needs, housing costs, and other basics has been a significant source of stress on top of the job search stress. It’s been a very precarious balance that threatens to destabilize on the regular.

Recently his car broke down. A mechanic diagnosed it with blown head gaskets and quoted $4500+. Marcus was able to find a mechanic to do the work for $2500 which is wonderful! However, it’s still money he doesn’t have and it remains the most urgent crisis he faces. He lives in a rural era, not metro, so a car is absolutely vital.

I’ve started this GoFundMe to help raise the funds to get his car fixed so that he can get his kids where they need to go, get to job interviews (and hopefully a job!), and appointments. Any funds past the goal will go towards housing, bills, and the basic living expenses that are closing in.

He doesn’t ask for help easily, and I don’t take my ask for your help in helping him lightly. Let’s help keep a wonderful father, environmental scientist, best friend, and all around amazing person with transportation. Thank you so much for your time, for sharing this, and for your contributions.
