Keep Maasai Girls in School: Support Sustainable Pads

Hi everyone! My name is Chelsea, and I’m currently in Arusha, Tanzania, working with the Widows Empowerment & HIV/AIDS Foundation (WEHAF). WEHAF is an NGO empowering women affected by HIV/AIDS, as well as widows and children in the community.WEHAF

In Arusha, Tanzania, countless girls are forced to miss school because they don’t have the sanitary products they need. This causes girls to fall behind in school or drop out altogether.

One of the ongoing projects is the "Elimu" Project, which seeks to increase access to feminine hygiene products to combat this issue.

The Elimu Project involves:

  • Increasing access to feminine hygiene products
  • Distributing reusable sanitary pads to girls in need and the Maasai community
  • Providing hands-on demonstrations on how to use and care for the pads
  • HIV/AIDS awareness
  • Empowering the women at the Mama Center to sew the pads themselves

Where are your donations going?

Your contribution will go directly toward purchasing the materials (cloth, waterproof lining, thread, underwear, bar soap) needed to make the pads and support hygiene. I will be buying the supplies locally and working alongside the mamas to make the pads and distribute them.

Thank you so much for your support!
