The Free Man opened in 2011 as a crazy idea, when Deep Ellum had little weekly entertainment, "let's bring live music to the people 7 nights a week from 7 pm to 2 am!"
This was an absolutely insane idea. The logistics behind it were staggering.
We have gone through the ringer, we expanded, live music 7 nights a week on 2 different stages from 7 pm to 2 am, this is unheard of! We just kept doing what we do, the City of Dallas tried to destroy us, and we made it through that. The amount of miracles it has taken to get us here is mind boggling. In the end, we knew if we could just be open, we could make things happen.
Well we can't be open. And we are sorry.
It took everything we could muster to overcome the debt we were put under, but have been barely making it due to our $12,000 a month in debt payments. To our credit... we had been making it. We just kept doing what we do. Then as if things couldn't get worse a Pandemic strikes and we can't possibly continue making those payments. On top of that our rent is $15,000 a month.
We are delivering food, but it's 10% of our normal revenue. We are applying through the PPP act and economic injury act but taking on even more debt may be more than we can stand.
So we need your help to keep one of the coolest venues in town up and running.
This is the first time in our history, despite the city of Dallas hitting us for hundreds of thousands of nonsense, that I have thought "We might not make it through this, we are going to need help".
Whatever you can do makes a difference, even ordering togo helps.
But if you have deep pockets in this extraordinary time, please help us keep doing what we do.
