Lindy by the Lake was created in 2018 to bring swing dancing to the East Bay—specifically Oakland, a city known as the "Harlem of the West." Our vision was to put Lindy Hop in the public eye and introduce it to new generations of dancers. From the start, the event has been free, open to everyone, and powered by volunteers who share a love for music and movement by the lake. After the pandemic, Lindy by the Lake gained popularity as one of the first venues to open safely with outdoor dancing, becoming a vibrant gathering place for dancers eager to reconnect and move together again.
Now, in 2026, the dance landscape has shifted. There are more events competing for attention, and community donations have slowed. Despite these challenges, our commitment to keeping the lake alive with rhythm and joy remains strong. We want to continue introducing new dancers to swing music and ensure that Lindy by the Lake stays free and accessible to all. With your help, we can carry this beloved tradition forward into Season 8 and beyond.
Your support will help us book talented bands, cover marketing costs, secure storage and equipment, and produce at least six unforgettable events this year. Every dollar you give goes directly toward making these gatherings possible—no salaries, no overhead, just music, dancing, and community. Lindy by the Lake exists because of the dancers and community members who show up, volunteer, play music, teach lessons, and share their love of swing dancing. Thank you for helping us keep the spirit of Lindy by the Lake alive!
