angel projects fight to expand cardiac clinic
In the last 7 years I have had sepsis 6 times, a DIC once which landed me on life-support. I have lost 7 units of blood at once in a body which only holds 8. 9 surgeries and several life threatening events. The only thing that saved me was Dr Juan Guzman and the Dysautonomia clinic at Hamilton Health Sciences. Every hospital is struggling right now, especially with covid. Dr Guzman and his team are life savers for on average 50 patients per month. Over 300 Tilt table tests (diagnostic testing for POTS) are being conducted in the lab, enabling people to get on the right treatments and medication. Giving people their lives back. This is the only such clinic in Ontario at this time. Waiting times have been long but the team works extra hours to squeeze in as many patients as possible.
The other day the shoe dropped and funding is just not there. The lab is not currently operating and Dr Guzman is not able to take on new patients.
There are so many young people who have no where to turn. Their lives went from ordinary to one day not being able to stand or walk without fainting. There is simply no hope and unfortunately many turn to suicide.
As the founder of the Angel project, and as a survivor and warrior I have to do everything I can to bridge the gap between patients, the hospital and government funding. We all need to help right now, to keep the doors open while we secure government funding. The lab needs to open again and new patients must be seen and diagnosed.
Imagine you son or daughter going from a straight A student and super athlete to not being able to get out of bed, losing weight and fainting everyday. You see every doctor and specialist but you are told they can't find anything wrong then finally a doctor or cardiologist mentions POTS, this could be the answer. Your child is put on a waiting list for over a year , and now you get the call that the clinic has been defunded. Complete and utter devastation.
Please help me help these people, the way it continues to keep me a live. This clinic is imperative in a system that already fails rare disease patients. together if we can reach half a million people who each donate a dollar we can bridge the gap while I will work night and day lobbying for government funding.
from my heart to yours - I have never asked for anything ,,,,please I want to live and I need these young people to get hope again
Please Donate and share, if you have seen the hell I have been thought and my family in the last 7 years, I know you will help. I will never stop fighting for the forgotten, and I will never stop fighting for this.
The best way to run this is through our charity as we have alway been a voice for the forgotten and this is a forgotten population. The angel project manages funds in the best way possible and we operate with absolute minimal overhead.
we will be adding patient stories and pictures as this fundraiser goes on. Please help, and thank you for letting my children keep their mom , my husband his wife, and most of all the patients I serve get to keep their advocate. I want to live and I want to serve, but I can not do so if this clinic closes.
All funds from this fundraiser will go through the Angel project Canada
