Keep Lacrosse Alive at Capital High School
Donation protected
Hello everyone, we are the Capital High Cougars Lacrosse Team. We represent Capital High in the West Virginia Scholastic Lacrosse Association.
Our team began competing in 2010, with the boy's team obtaining the WVSLA Division 2 Title in 2015.
The following year, the girl's team was formed to offer the same opportunity and provide the students another option to participate in a non-traditional sport at the school.
Lacrosse as a sport has provided players who usually don't play traditional sports an alternative that provides them with a team environment and allows multiple students to earn partial to full scholarships to attend college and participate in the sport at the club, collegiate, and international levels. Lacrosse is a sport that allows everyone to play and contribute to the team's success.
Lacrosse is a club sport in West Virginia and not sanctioned by the WVSSAC, so we receive no funding from our school or state.
Players' fees and fundraising pay all expenses. We do not turn anyone away, and we make an effort to supply everyone with the necessary equipment to participate in the sport and experience playing lacrosse at Capital High. In addition to our regular season, our coaches and players participate in clinics and outreach to help grow the sport of lacrosse to youth in underserved areas of Charleston and the Kanawha Valley area. Most of these are free for participants who would like to attend.
To help offset our expenses, we're kicking off our 2024-2025 fundraising today on #GivingTuesday. We ask that even if it's only a dollar, please consider donating to our organization to help us keep the game of lacrosse alive at Capital High School. We've set our goal for the year at $5000 as this will be an ongoing fundraiser.
The funds received will be used for some of the following expenses that are incurred each year by the team:
Game Balls: $168 per 120 count Case
Uniform Replacements: $110 per set
League Fees: $200 per year
Athletic Trainer: $100 per game
Helmet replacements: $280 per helmet
Stick repair and replacement: $80-$120
As well as travel expenses and other costs accrued during the season.
We thank you in advance for any donation you make to our cause, and we hope to see you this season as we continue to play and grow the sport of lacrosse here in West Virginia.
Sincerely,
Jimmy Hill
