One year ago, right after Thanksgiving, my beautiful daughter Kristin, who previously had no history of breast cancer, was diagnosed with lobular stage 4 breast cancer. She found an amazing doctor who put together a treatment plan, which includes ongoing tests, medications, doctor's appointments, nutritional support, and other therapies. Kristin has been tolerating her medication well, and we continue to be optimistic. Although there is still no cure, many breast cancer patients are living longer, more productive lives; this is in part due to progressive research and new advances in treating cancer. There is hope that Kristin will be with us for a long time.
Kristin gets up every morning (many times after a sleepless, painful night) and goes to work with a positive attitude. She teaches 10th-grade students at Kearns High School in Salt Lake City. Kristin loves her job and her students, and it's essential for her to continue teaching for many reasons. She has only a handful of paid sick days left for doctors' appointments, blood draws, symptom management, etc.; she can take additional time off; however, those days are unpaid.
Kristin and her husband Scott also have a small in-home business called Maple Springs Soap Co. This is their source of joint primary income. Kristin hand-makes bath and body products, featuring salves, soaps for new & expecting mothers, and various all-occasion gift baskets meant to pamper your soul. She has lovely stocking stuffers for the holidays! https://www.etsy.com/shop/maplespringsoapco Unfortunately, their business sales are down by 40% this year. This is the income they use for extra expenses that come up.
We are asking for your help to lighten the burden of the ongoing financial strain that cancer has caused Kristin and Scott. A Christmas present to lighten the load! Kristin's family has stepped in and will continue to contribute where and what they can, but it is still a drop in the bucket. She has insurance through her work, but even with that, there are just so many out–of–pocket and unexpected expenses. Kristin continues to live her life with purpose and joy. Her resilience and faith in God are unwavering, and her sense of humor is contagious. Kristin is very aware and keeps close to her heart all those who fight this insidious disease of cancer. She pays it forward in any way she can - help, comfort, peace, and solace to those in need.
Blessings,
Sandra Bunch ~ Mom
