Hi Friends!

We were trying to avoid doing this but we are running out of options. We need to move out of our current building within the next 2-3 months. We know you all love this building; we do too, but it is just not a viable option for us anymore (we'll go into more detail about that in our next newsletter). We have looked all over for alternate spaces and found one that would suit our needs and budget while still keeping us within the main Downtown Lee's Summit neighborhood (yay!). This last point was the most important to us; I don't think we could survive without the support of our amazing DTLS community. But now we need to put down our security deposit and first month's rent ASAP while still paying to stay in our current location until we can move, plus general moving expenses and things like marketing to let people know that we've moved. While the store has been doing well over the past year, we still operate on a day-to-day basis like most other bookstores and simply do not have the cash flow to cover upfront expenses like that. I've been doing everything in my power to get some kind of financing together, but I don't know that we're going to be able to, at least not for the amount we need.

We know how much KD's Books means to many of you; we have so many families that have been shopping here since it opened 35 years ago. It's a gamble for us, as a business and personally, to keep going with this at all in with the current economy and political climate, but we just can't bring ourselves to close the store, at least not without exhausting every other option first.

We've loved every minute of the last 4 years that we've owned KD's and there is nothing else we would rather be doing. We want to continue growing this bookstore and make sure it stays in our community for another 35 years. We're setting our goal at $15000 and hoping you all can help us meet it, but absolutely anything and everything helps.
