Help Keep Kane Enrolled and Housed at UofA

Hello! My name is Alex Reichling, and I'm raising funds for my amazing partner, Kane Litke, to be able to stay in school this coming semester. If there is any way you can help, he (and I) would appreciate it so much. Read below if you would like to know how he got here. Thank you! <3
Kane moved from Houston, Texas to Tucson, Arizona in 2023 to start attending the University of Arizona and study Plant Science. He was able to pay for his freshman year with scholarship money, federal loans and grants, as well as assistance from an on-campus resource center. Knowing that it would be difficult to find funds for his sophomore year, Kane became a Resident Assistant, meaning he would have free on-campus housing.
It is now December 2024 and Kane is in danger of not being able to enroll in classes by January 3rd (the cutoff) because a student must not have a past due balance to be able to enroll for the next semester. Kane is still receiving his scholarship, federal loans, and grants, but unfortunately it is not enough. We have looked everywhere for a loan, but being 20 years old with very little credit and having no one who is willing to cosign on a loan, we have found nothing.
Kane originally made plans to come to The UofA with promised financial support from a couple of family members. However, when Kane came out to them as queer, they rescinded their support and the thousands of dollars that they had set aside for him are now gone. His family members who would love to support Kane are not able to financially, and the ones who do have the means refuse to do so if he is living an authentic and happy life as a queer, trans man.
Kane is one of the most resilient people I have ever met, and he deserves to be here; in his year and a half at the University, he has made a positive impact on so many people and found a life partner in me. Despite difficult mental health struggles, Kane remains committed to his education, majoring in Plant Science with a minor in Arabic.
This matter is especially pressing because if Kane is not able to be a student next semester, he can no longer be a Resident Assistant and will lose his housing. Finding an affordable place to live in less than a month is difficult, and Kane has no family in the state, no car, and an emotional support pup that he is caring for, Aponi. He currently has a job (besides being an RA) at the school, but it could be in jeopardy as well if he loses his student status.
Kane has tried everything to take this on by himself, but he doesn't know where to turn anymore. I want to do whatever I can to help, but I am also a full-time college student only able to work a part time job. If you or anyone you know can help, it would be so deeply appreciated, and I hope that we can in turn help you one day when our situation improves. Even just $10 or $20 will get us closer to our goal, so any amount is appreciated. In a system that encourages us to kick each other down in order to succeed, simply looking out for each other and embracing our shared humanity is a beautiful act of resistance.
Thank you so much for taking the time to hear a small sliver of Kane's story. Have a happy holidays!
All proceeds will be paying for Kane's remaining tuition balance. If you would like more information and/or updates on our progress, you can reach out to me through gofundme. Much love!
