My name is Justin Gilmore, and I am a proud rising sophomore at Howard University, majoring in Marketing. Being a student at Howard means so much more to me than just earning a degree; it means being part of a vibrant community of like-minded individuals who look like me, where we can build safe spaces, foster collective success, and cultivate Black excellence for generations to come.

Howard is truly special. It's a place where you meet the brightest and most unique minds from all different backgrounds and cultures. Here, I've found a new family, and the possibilities for what I can achieve feel truly endless.

My freshman year at Howard was nothing short of transformative. I'm incredibly proud to say I made the Dean's List, a testament to my dedication and the incredible learning environment Howard provides. I was exposed to so many enriching experiences, and I have Howard to thank for opening my eyes to new perspectives and opportunities. This year, I also had the privilege of joining Bloom and the Build Institute, two incredible Howard families that have further deepened my connection to this community, and I am eager to continue my involvement with them.

My dream is to become a successful sports marketer, using my skills and passion to carve out a unique space in the industry. Beyond that, my ultimate goal is to achieve financial independence and, one day, establish an academy that teaches minority students about their true history and emphasizes the profound importance of unity within our community. My education at Howard is the crucial stepping stone to realizing these ambitious dreams and contributing meaningfully to the world.

However, my future at Howard is now at a critical crossroads. I urgently need to raise $13,000 to cover a significant financial gap for my upcoming academic year. This unforeseen challenge is a direct result of two major factors: recent tuition increases at Howard University and drastic government changes to financial aid that led to me receiving absolutely no FAFSA aid this year.

This abrupt shift in my financial situation has placed an immense burden on me and my family, adding stress we simply cannot afford. If I don't raise these funds, this will, devastatingly, likely be my last semester at Howard. This $13,000 will not only secure my place at Howard for at least another year but will also cover the cost of essential books I need to continue my studies. More than just money, it will allow me to continue to grow, thrive, and keep my cherished Howard family.
