Help Jose Daniel's family stay together!
Jose Daniel is the guardian stepfather of 2 U.S. citizen children who are students at Scarlett Middle School in the Ann Arbor Public Schools District. Jose Daniel came to the U.S. four years ago so that his stepdaughter, now a 12-year-old Scarlett student, could receive the necessary medical treatment to help her walk. The primary breadwinner for his household, Jose Daniel has been working hard to support his family while tending to their daughter's chronic medical condition that requires repeated surgeries and continued monitoring. In September, while at his job, Jose Daniel was unexpectedly detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He was held in a detention center for over a month while his lawyer argued for his release on bail. The family has very few resources but just managed to secure the $10,000 bail money. They have not yet been able to pay their lawyer. Please help us raise the remaining funds for their $4,635 in legal expenses and give him a fighting chance to continue to support his family and stepdaughter's health here. (This will directly go to a total of $4,500 in legal fees plus the the 3% GoFundMe processing fee.)
As they navigate through these challenges, the family of Jose Daniel is being actively supported by two volunteer groups collaborating together: the Washtenaw Interfaith Coalition for Immigrant Rights (WICIR.org ); and by the Scarlett Middle School Immigration Support Team, a group of staff members who advocate for the needs of immigrant students and families in the Scarlett and Ann Arbor Public Schools community.
