If you’re seeing this, you likely know me and/or know my sister, Jenn. This GoFundMe is to help Jenn (and her cat Mochi, who is also a documented emotional support animal).

Jenn has reached a point where she’s medically unable to work and is applying for disability retirement. She’ll be able to collect some retirement funds for her disability, but not until the county approves and processes her paperwork for it, which typically takes 4-6 months. Until then, she has zero income from her employer as she’s unable to work.

She’s applied for state disability, so that she has some way to pay for rent and food until the retirement is approved by the county. But the roadblock she’s hitting with state disability is she’s unable to get the necessary forms signed by her doctor. Her doctor is out on leave for the next few months, and even though she’s tried to meet with other doctors to see if they could sign the forms instead, they essentially told her, “We can’t sign, you’ll need this signed by someone that knows your medical history.”

All that to say she has zero income right now, and may not have anything for the next few months. We’re both scrambling trying to figure out how to get her through this financially, but it’s a lot. I don’t have enough in my own savings right now to get her through 3 months of expenses (rent, bills, and food). We tried applying jointly for a loan through her credit union and were denied.

We’re hoping to move her into a subsidized apartment so that her monthly rent is lower, but most places have long waitlists. We’re also reaching out to local programs and services to see if there’s any way they can help her. Our biggest concerns right now are finances and housing. We’re really hoping to keep her and Mochi together and housed in an apartment, not living in her car.
