GROOVE IS IN THE HEART - In The Groove Relief Fund

Donation protected

When we opened our studio doors in 2010, our vision was to create a place where we could share our love of dance with others. Ten years and thousands of classes later, we are so proud that In The Groove Studios has become a home to more than 300 dancers, a handful of teams, and amazing teachers from all over the Bay and beyond.

But like many small businesses, we’ve been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since closing our doors, we’ve been doing everything we can to keep the studio afloat, including offering online dance classes and applying for federal and local grants. Unfortunately we weren’t awarded any grants, and the online classes simply aren’t enough.

With our cash reserves dwindling rapidly, we reach out to you for help in covering In The Groove’s most urgent costs.

Where your contributions will go:

               $20,850 - Rent

               $600 - Water & Sewage

               $600  - PG&E

               $375 - Insurance

We understand that this is a challenging and uncertain time for everyone. Whatever you are able to give is deeply appreciated and will make all the difference. Even $5 goes a long way.

We also believe we are in this together. That’s why any raised funds over our goal amount will go toward relief efforts for other Bay Area dance studios.

Help us keep In The Groove Studios a place of community where artists can thrive. Please donate what you can and share this campaign with all your friends and family. And please stay safe! We miss you all and look forward to opening our doors again as soon as we can.

"Every time I teach at Groove, it feels like home. I feel welcomed, supported, and loved. You get a great sense of community at this studio, and it's authentic. It's real. And it's hard to come by." - Nico O'Connor, teacher & choreographer

“This place has some of the best dancers I’ve been lucky to learn from. They teach loads of hip hop but also dancehall, K-Pop, urban choreography, and more. They bring in some of the most ridiculously insanely good dancers to teach pop-up workshops.“
- Where to learn hip hop dancing in the Bay Area 2019,  Elaine Adolfo, patron

"Two of the most majestic beings I've had the chance to meet. They have the biggest hearts, and In The Groove is just a piece of each of their hearts that you can feel the love come from. I love Leslie and Daniel." - James Alsop, choreographer

"I consider In The Groove Studios a second home, a safe space, and a second family which wouldn't be possible if it weren't for Daniel and Leslie's welcoming energy."
- Raquel Tansier, Groove Against the Machine company member

“[They] have chosen to keep pricing at In The Groove low to keep classes accessible. At $13 per class, it’s one of the lowest-priced dance studios in the Bay Area.” - At In the Groove one Oakland hip hop dancer makes a living from the rhythm,  Samantha Nobles-Block, San Francisco Chronicle
