It's time for the Hillsboro General Store Cafe to change hands again. Ben and Doreen (and Deirdre) are ready to retire! That's where I, and all of you, come in.

I'm 20% of the way to my first payment goal and would be ever grateful to have your support in making this a smooth transition.

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Meghan Kinney and I moved to Hillsboro about 4 years ago. It was supposed to be a short stay, maybe 6 months, to take a break from corporate kitchens and high stress cooking. I lasted all of two months before I decided to see what the Help Wanted sign in the cafe window was all about. After a short interview and a little trepidation on Ben's part, I was hired and began after the New Year.

I've spent the better part of the last 20 years helping others run their kitchens. I always had a dream of having my own small place, but didn't think it would be possible. I've fallen in love with this tiny restaurant in a tiny town, and finally made the decision that I should take on the challenge.

The past 20 years of working in all sorts of places, from Executive Chef at high end ski resorts to vegan cafes, has provided me with a set of skills that uniquely qualify me to run and grow with this cafe.

Consistency and affordability have been cornerstones of the Hillsboro General Store Cafe through several owners, and I am committed to making sure that remains true. I have no grandiose plans to overhaul the menu. If it ain't broke don't fix it. However, I do like to try new things and hope the community will embrace some of my crazy ideas!

Your old favorites will remain for as long as people are interested in eating them! I do hope to expand our vegetarian and vegan options, as well as continuing to make conscious decisions about keeping food waste low. I also have plans to extend some hours and add another day to our weekly schedule; maybe a beer/wine license, themed dinner nights, meal-prep services, and in-house private events.
