Keep Hekate Open Through September — Help Us Finish Strong!!
GOAL 1: $7,200 by May 30th — covers two months back rent already owed
GOAL 2: $22,200 total by September 30th — covers everything through the end of our lease
You know Hekate. You've been here.
You sat at our bar when you needed somewhere to land. You brought a friend who was newly sober and didn't know where to go. You found out that a night out didn't have to mean waking up wasted. You had one of the best drinks of your life---and there wasn't a drop of alcohol in it.
If you DON'T know Hekate, we've been called the #1 sober bar in America by TimeOut. We've been covered by The New York Times, CNN, Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, Business Insider, NPR, and dozens more. We've been part of Dry January events, sober curious conversations, and late-night hangs about why the world needs more spaces like this one. Soon we'll be featured in the Women's Health Mocktail Playbook---a major publication moment for everything we've built here!
None of that happened by accident. It happened because this community showed up, over and over again.
Here's where we are: we are two months behind on rent. Our lease runs through September 30th (that's the finish line) and we want to get there. We're not asking you to save us forever. We're asking you to help us finish strong!
We've had troubles like just about every brick and mortar business has had trouble these last few years. The rise in costs, the rise in tariffs. Our gate broke and cost over a thousand dollars to repair. Not once, but TWICE! Odds and ends needing attention come constantly---one thing goes bad and before you know it, you're in the hole. That's the reality of running a small business.
Every dollar goes directly toward keeping the lights on and the bar open through September 30th. That's it.
If this place ever gave you something---a good night, a safe space, a reason to believe that sober doesn't mean boring---this is your chance to give something back!
If we don't hit this, we close early. And we close in the hole.
A Personal Plea from Eliott Edge, Head Bartender
Hekate was the first job I got after one month in rehab. I was a bartender on and off for five years as a bartender and barely sober a single day. Then I landed in front of Hekate. It was as if my Higher Power had dropped me right there. I had all the skills of a bartender but nowhere to put them, and tons of anxiety about returning behind the bar. Then this place. I loved it instantly. And I loved every witchy inch of it.
We've gotten press from all over the world. We've invented about one hundred original mocktails. We've been on TV. We're soon to be featured in the Women's Health Mocktail Playbook. We did all of that as a small business.
I love this place. I don't know about its future. But I know we would all love to keep rocking it here until our lease is up on October 1st. We all worked insanely hard and very long hours to make Hekate what it is, and we'd LOVE to see it land gracefully-er.
What I do know is this: we helped rehabilitate the meaning of the word MOCKTAIL. And I'll always be super proud of that.
If you can throw some cash our way, it'll be deeply appreciated. Share it with your sober friends, your sober curious friends, your drunk uncles, anyone who's ever sat at this bar (or who always wanted to but hasn't made the trek yet) and dug it.
We would love to keep kicking ass until October first. Hopefully that's in the cards. And should you be moved... THIS is the time to move!
We love you!!
— Eliott Edge
