Keep Hansgrill Thriving: Donate to Cover Septic Costs
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
The Hansgrill has been a beloved gathering place for locals and tourists for many years, offering good food, a warm atmosphere, and a sense of community. But right now, we’re facing an unexpected challenge that we need your help to overcome.
Our prior septic system failed and required a complete replacement. To keep our doors open while paying for the new system to be pumped from January 2024 to September 2024, we spent approximately $20,000 on frequent pumping and anticipate even more costs to finish the septic project altogether.
So, the new system that was installed has two 1000-gallon grease traps, one 1000-gallon septic tank, two 1500-gallon overflow tanks, and two large sand filters. It was so expensive! We paid $360-$650 per week from January through September to pump out the old 750-gallon tank to stay in compliance with the health department in order to keep the doors open. All this while getting permitting and design approval from the county.
Thankfully, the owner of the property covered the cost of the new system and will be raising our rent (understandably so), but the cost of pumping the old system, while waiting for permits and construction, was our responsibility.
This couldn’t have come at a more difficult time. Winter is here, and as many of you know, the tourists and snowbirds who usually fill our tables have left the region. With reduced staff hours putting a strain on our employees' financials and with far less off-season income, the added financial burden is stretching our resources thin.
Small businesses depend on the savings that we accrue during the summer to help us get through the winter when our sales are down and our population is decreased (because of the sunbirds that only come here in the summertime). The money that we accrued actually had to go to the pumping of that system to stay in compliance instead of going into savings, as it normally would.
We’re asking our community for help. If you’re able, we’d be so grateful for your support:
• Stop by the store or grill. Every meal and purchase helps us keep going. We’ve got some cozy HANSVILLE hoodies that will make the perfect holiday gift.
• Donate to this campaign. Every donation, no matter how small, helps us cover this unexpected expense and keeps the Hansgrill thriving. A GoFundMe account is in the process of being opened. Donations are also, gratefully, being accepted at the store.
Your generosity will help us keep our team employed, continue serving this community we love, and ensure that we’re here to welcome you with a warm meal and a cold beer daily.
Thank you for being part of our community. We’re endlessly grateful for your support, whether it’s through a donation, a visit, or simply spreading the word about our campaign.
