Please Donate to keep George Breathing so he can Live
Artist George Kelly of Berkeley, CA based George Kelly Studio has been a professional Bay Area sign painter and boat letterer on racing yachts and boats for over 50 years, his beautiful work gracing over 8,000 boats. His body of work includes small vessels, ferries, ships, and “every type of yacht ever made", and for some of America’s wealthiest individuals. Having just turned 79, George refers to himself as, “The Last Man Standing”, the last of traditionally trained sign painters still operating in the Bay Area.
George has been diagnosed with severe COPD and Emphysema. At 79, he has to continue to work to pay his bills and sustain his life. In order to install graphics onto boats George often has to climb scaffolding, sometimes stories high, or work on moving boats in water, in all kinds of challenging weather, where a small, lightweight device is essential. He has tried every possible avenue to obtain a reliable and lightweight portable oxygen concentrator that he is able to carry with him into the chaotic conditions of a busy boatyard to help him breathe.
While he has been approved for this device by his medical providers the vendors do not actually have any available devices but force waiting lists that can take upwards of 6-8 weeks.
George doesn’t have the luxury of time. The cost for purchase is prohibitive. With active projects both large and small he needs to be able to breathe outside his home and continue to live!
