Hey everyone, my name is Freebird. I'm transferring to a university in Tokyo, Japan this January and despite the entire internet saying it's an impossible feat; leaving my animals behind is simply not an option. As cliché as it sounds, these guys are my entire world. We've grown up together and are still growing everyday.
They've all passed their required rabies titer tests and the 40 day Notice of Import has been submitted to Animal Quarantine services in Tokyo. All that's left is the final ($$$) stretch of the process: Health Certificates for international travel, plane tickets, and a pet shipping company for Lotus and Wiconi because their weight exceeds the airline limit for coming with me via cargo.
The health certificates for eight cats and two dogs is estimated at $5,000+ not counting any vet services (deworming, flea/tick meds, heartworm tests, etc.) they may need prior to travel. After looking around for the cheapest available options, the pet shipper is $3,900 for Lotus and Wiconi LAX-HND. To get all of the cats on the plane(s) we're looking at $1,200 plus our own tickets. Once we arrive in Japan everyone will have to get a follow up health check and establish care at our local veterinarian within 48 hours as required by law.
Let me introduce the stars of the show:
Wiconi (left) and Lotus (right), both 9 y/o
Daiyu (left) and Biyu (right), 5 y/o bonded sisters
Eunha, 5 y/o bonded brother of Yasu
Yasu, 5 y/o bonded sister of Eunha
Soleil (left) and Luna (right), 5 y/o bonded sisters
Joyboy (left) and Juro (right) 2 y/o bonded brothers
I've spent the last six months searching for ways to cut costs and do this without any assistance. However, despite working multiple jobs while being a full-time college student, it's not enough. All of these expenses still don't include the human moving expenses and animal necessities once we arrive at our new home. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in keeping my family together and ensuring that they have everything they need. I appreciate all of you so much and can't wait to share updates of our journey!
