Keep Fauna and Her Owner Together

This November, my beloved dog Fauna will turn 21. She’s been by my side for 20 years — through every chapter of my life — and in all that time, we’ve barely been apart. She’s not just a pet; she’s my family, my companion, and my heart.

I’m moving to Kenya, and leaving Fauna behind is simply not an option. She means too much to me. For her age, she’s still remarkably healthy, though she does have some challenges that require extra patience and care. With love, I believe she could live a few more years. But I also know that when I’m away, she often stops eating until I come back. That bond is so strong that I truly fear she wouldn’t survive without me.

And yet, she’s still happy. Just a couple of months ago, I filmed her playing joyfully with her puppy friend Chrissy. She still loves to sniff, explore, and enjoy life. Fauna may be a little old lady, but she has spirit and mileage left in her — she just needs to stay with me to thrive.

For her safety and dignity, Fauna will be traveling through Lufthansa’s Live Animal program, which is one of the best and safest international options for senior dogs. But the cost is significant — between vet exams, the required USDA-endorsed health certificate, the Kenya import permit, her travel crate, and the airline cargo fees, I estimate expenses at $2,000–$3,000.
