Hi everyone, my name is Jessibel Hernandez.

On October 14, 2025, my brother Eddy was detained by ICE at the airport when he was returning from visiting our family in the Dominican Republic.

For several days, we had no idea where he was or what had happened to him. It wasn’t until one of his friends managed to find out that he was in ICE custody — but that was all we knew.

Finally, on October 17, I was able to locate the facility where Eddy was being held. However, when I tried to ask questions about his situation or how to contact him, the correctional facility couldn’t give me any information since he was being held under ICE’s authority. My brother wasn’t able to contact anyone until paperwork was processed on his end.

It wasn’t until October 20 — six long days later — that I was finally able to send him a message through a tablet system. As soon as he saw it, he was able to call me right away. We were heartbroken and terrified during those days of silence, not knowing if he was safe or what was happening to him.

Eddy is a legal U.S. resident who has lived here most of his life (since he was a child). This is his home.

Our family is now facing unexpected legal fees and may need to post bond to help Eddy fight his case and come home. We’re asking for any donations — big or small — to help us cover these costs and give Eddy the chance to stay with his family where he belongs.
