Keep Earwig Studio Open! COVID-19 Fundraiser
Donation protected
3/17/20 UPDATE: You all helped hit my goal in 24 hours?! Holy community Batman! Anything raised above and beyond my initial goal will go towards expenses in the following month. Despite my optimism, I believe closure passed April is likely. Because of your help, I actually think Earwig is gonna make it through this! THANK ALL OF YOU!!
Dear Earwig Artists & Community
I have made the difficult decision to close Earwig Studio for at least one month, if not longer.
Over the last ten years, I have worked very hard to not only build this studio, but also a community of artists and art supporters around it. I am proud to say we HAVE become that vibrant community that makes music together in the studio, at Earwig Sessions, at annual Earwigfest, and in so many other ways.
I value all of you deeply and do not want to put anyone at risk in this critical moment. King County is the epicenter of the US outbreak and COVID-19 is spreading quickly in our region. There are just too many question marks around keeping Earwig Studio disinfected while trying to stay healthy myself. I take my role as a community leader seriously and staying open to serve myself and my family at the risk of other people and their families, is unacceptable to me. Closure is the necessary, responsible choice (and will likely be forced very soon anyway).
Unfortunately, running a recording studio in a very expensive city has always been a tight-rope walk and Earwig has no financial buffer. I will not be able to keep the studio open through, and beyond, this time of pandemic without support. So, I am asking for your help to keep Earwig Studio open and our community vibrant by contributing anything you can towards Earwig’s monthly operating expenses. According to 2019-2020 reports, which include a sudden hike in commercial rent this year, the studio’s monthly expenses total $6,400 ($213/day). Most of that is rent. Closing the studio now means that I do not have enough to pay rent in April or May.
If you have the means and you value me, Earwig studio, and our artist community, please consider donating what you can to this relief fund. Every little bit helps. I am so grateful for any and all support you can give. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
In gratitude,
