Keep E & Bentley Safe and Together

Hello Everyone,

My name is E. Nuñez (they|them) and I come to y’all on my knees and at one of the lowest times in my life. In November 2024, I unexpectedly lost my job and I have been applying every day to all kinds of positions (those aligned with my professional experience as well as fast food chains, grocery stores, etc.) without any luck. I’ve been a finalist in three searches and each time they went with another candidate. I have been blessed to be on rental assistance since February 2025 but that is unfortunately no longer available to me. My current lease ends in August and since I have to give my notice 30 days in advance, my notice is due in July. Without income for the last 6 months, I won’t be able to re-sign my lease or sign any lease until I am able to show several months of income. So come August, I will be unhoused and transitioning to living in my car until I am able to get a job and save money to sign another lease. I have cried many tears since and have accepted that this is my temporary reality.

Recently, I was asked what it would mean to surrender to this moment and it would mean having faith that it will all work out and accepting my reality. So I am preparing for Bentley (my dog) and I to live in my car until my opportunity comes and I can save enough money to secure housing for us again. Giving Bentley away is NOT AN OPTION so please don’t come to me with that, he is literally all I have. I worry about the impact this will have on him the most and have some peace knowing the hottest months are the next two months we have left on my lease. I will be selling everything I own to make some money and hope that it helps for a smooth transition to car living.

Funds raised will be used to pay for my last two months of rent, to support with basic needs while living in my car (food, hygiene products, gas, laundry, etc.) and to kick start my savings for a new place when the time comes. Any amount helps and if you are unable to donate, I kindly ask that you share this among your networks.

Here are some questions I have received lately that I hope will provide more context before deciding to donate.

1.) Why don’t you move back in with family?

Since coming out as trans, my family has made it abundantly clear that I am not welcome nor safe in their presence. For my own safety, I made the difficult decision to go no contact about a year ago. Unfortunately, not all of us are blessed to have family to accept the fullness of who we are. Not looking for pity, just my reality.

2.) Are you willing to move for work?

I currently live in California and I am willing to move within the state. Again, as a trans person, staying within the state is the safest option for me. So I will be staying in California, unless the work is remote then I am all in.

3.) What about shelters?

Shelters are notoriously unsafe for trans folks and can be dangerous, in general!

4.) What type of work are you looking for?

At this point, I am open to anything but if taking a look at my resume would help, shoot me an email and I am happy to share it with you. I am also on LinkedIn if you want to connect there.

Thank you for making it this far and for donating and/or sharing.

With deep gratitude,,

-E & Bentley
