On March 29, 2025, I will be participating in the Nevis to St. Kitts Channel Swim. This will be their 24th annual cross-channel swim, 4.1 kilometers long.

I wish to dedicate this effort to Dr. David R. Gater, the person who was my mentor, my biggest believer, and someone who transformed my entire career trajectory.

Dr. Gater was the chair of our Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Miami, Florida. Unfortunately, in the summer of 2022, we were all stunned and are still saddened by his unexpected passing.

Him and I initiated a good number of research and educational projects for our 24 residents in training and specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. One of the projects is to ensure that our trainees get more education and skills in lifestyle medicine such as addressing healthy eating, physical activity, stress, sleep and social connections with their patients. The money raised will go towards those projects.

With your help, we can make sure his legacy for research and education in our department continues to thrive.
