Keep Declan's Family Together During Treatment

Donation protected
My nephew, Declan was born premature and suffered brain damage from a lack of oxygen. As he grew, it became apparent that he was severely Autistic. He is five years old now and nonverbal. Over the years, he has been prone to have violent outbursts but his mom and others have always been able to calm or distract him. Declan has a wonderful support system. His mom, Sarah is a loving, patient, and wonderful mother and teacher. His dad, Chris is a soldier and police officer who sets an amazing example for his boys. He's an awesome dad who loves his family fiercely. He is currently deployed and it has been so hard for him to watch his family struggle from afar. Declan has two older brothers, Chase and Trey, who are equally amazing and patient with their little brother. They, along with other family members and hired helpers have done everything in their power to care for Declan but they are not equipped to provide the help he now needs. A few weeks ago, my sister-in-law went outside to water her flowers. Declan banged on the window, and when Sarah looked up to wave at him, he punched his fist through the window, shattering the glass, and slicing his arm open. He had to get stitches and have his arm casted so he couldn't mess with it while he healed. His outbursts were definitely not easy but they were manageable and when he wasn't having an outburst, he was the absolute sweetest little boy. Two weeks ago, a sign fell as he was walking through their front door, hitting him and knocking him into a nearby bookshelf. He hit his head on the corner and suffered a concussion. Since then, his outbursts have been magnified tenfold. His rages are near constant and nothing can calm him. He doesn't sleep and he is constantly hurting himself, and his family. The only thing his mom had been able to do is restrain him for hours until he finally calms down. All the while, he punches, kicks, and rips her hair out. Sarah has taken him to the ER multiple times but every time, they have sent them home and told her they are not equipped to care for an Autistic child as inpatient. Yesterday, Declan had another outburst; this time he gave Sarah a black eye. The hospital finally agreed this is a crisis and he truly does need medical attention. They transferred him via ambulance to another hospital for acute care while they wait for a bed to open at one of the five hospitals in the US that are equipped for inpatient care for an Autistic child. His treatment will be covered by insurance but there will be many other costs that will not be covered. My brother was deployed in the fall of last year. Around the beginning of this year, their home was robbed. Medications, credit cards, a diamond bracelet that my brother bought for Sarah as a graduation gift, and quite a bit of cash were stolen. This family has been hit with one major trial after the next and Sarah has been forced to handle all of it, mostly, on her own. Once a bed becomes available; Sarah, Chase, Declan, and possibly Chris if he is allowed to come home from deployment, will have to travel across the country and pay for hotel stays, a rental car, and gas while Declan receives the care he desperately needs. All of this will be out of pocket. This is sure to be a huge financial burden for their family. All donations will be used to keep this family together during this difficult time and to provide the necessary accommodations to make life easier when Declan returns home. We are so grateful for all the prayers and now, my family needs help financially. We truly appreciate anything you are able to donate.
